6D Co-op: Bringing Big-City Services to a Small Community

In 2020, a group of wellness practitioners in Brooks, Alberta noticed residents in their small town were grappling with high levels of stress and tension. In response, they began hosting wellness classes and events as a collective, which were wildly successful.

In 2024, these practitioners — who all had their own businesses based out of their homes — continued the momentum by coming together to form 6D Health and Wellness Cooperative, a co-operative that offers holistic health care resources.

Before 6D came into existence, wellness resources were few and far between in the small city of Brooks. Community members seeking specialized services would either not be able to access the resources they needed or had to trek long distances to larger cities.

“There were some massage therapists here, there was obviously physios here, but … you didn’t have a whole lot of choice,” said Robbi-Lynn, an orthopaedic massage specialist and one of 6D’s founders. “You had to go to Medicine Hat, and that’s an hour drive — you know, an hour drive there, an hour appointment, an hour drive back —  that’s a lot of time out of your day.”

For the practitioners behind 6D, that gap revealed both a community need and a practical challenge: no single provider could create a full wellness hub alone.
