NYC Council Introduces New Co-op Law

NYC Council Members Helen Rosenthal, Carlos Menchaca, and Carmen Arroyo introduced a new worker coop law at a New York City Council General Hearing!

The bill would create reporting requirements for the City of New York on the number and amount of contracts allocated to worker cooperatives. A companion resolution asks the NYS legislature to broaden procurement rules to account for socially desirable goals. This may help our coalition next year as we push to allow for preferential treatment of worker cooperative businesses in the City's contracting process.
