[Editor's Note: This preview of JJ Noire's This Way Out DVD is informative in its own right. We don't hear often enough directly from worker-owners themselves, and this video serves as both an introduction to worker cooperatives, as well as a preview of the longer video. You can find more informative videos and interviews on JJ's Youtube channel.]
Starting a worker cooperative is not easy. JJNoire interviewed cooperative members working in biofuel, tech, retail, small manufacturing, custom woodworking, green housecleaning & food service and asked them how they met, funded, what obstacles they faced, why they selected one legal entity over another, how they handle bookkeeping, meetings, by-laws, permits, etc. The DVD's are divided into chapters interspersed with group discussion topics, Resource lists, business advice, a bookkeeping crash course, a communications & process crash course - all from coop members themselves. 2 DVD's running 4 hours total. It is directed primarily toward (initially) small start-up's with little access to capital. Available to order ($35) from Mighty Small Films
