Labor Songs - James Connolly Songs of Freedom Songbook

January 31, 2014
Body paragraph

Beginning with a history lesson (first 12 minutes) on Irish labor activist James Connolly (1868-1916) and the process of creating Songs of Freedom, followed by a rousing set of songs by and about James Connolly performed by Mat Callahan and Yvonne Moore, January 24, 2014 at The Starry Plough in Berkeley, CA. Songbook at CD with full band available at www.PMPress.org Tour schedule available at http://matcallahan.com/pages/news/new...Songs include: A Festive Song, Be Moderate, Human Freedom, Connolly Was There, A Rebel Song, Saoirse A Ruin, Shake Out Your Banners, Watchword Of Labor, Rebel Girl, O Slaves of Toil and more.

Connolly advocated for poetry and songs for working class movements, much as Emma Goldman recognized the value of a revolution one could dance to.  Enjoyed filming this and I hope many enjoy watching it.
