Forums related to discussion about the concepts and practices around the term "solidarity economy."
| |||
I recently explored the origin of the term "Solidarity Economy", and discovered that it has taken its current form as a result of the World Social Forum bringing together a number of civil society groups in Brazil. Paul Singer has written on the subject, and he focusses on organizations practicing self-management, and not representing privileged interests. For this reason he has included grassroots efforts like the Movement of Rural Landless Workers, MST, of Brazil, and excluded the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives, OCB. The OCB, while a member of the International Cooperative Alliance, ICA, appears to have members such as large farmers who have themselves organized as a cooperative. Nevertheless, their employees might not have full vested ownership and participation.
This forum would seem to be the place to discuss the theory and practice regarding the types of organizations involved, or not, in solidarity economics.
