Catalyzing worker co-ops & the solidarity economy

Whole Foods Co-op Workers Vote in Union Elections

On Thursday January 26, workers at Whole Foods Co-op in Duluth Minnesota voted 43-42 in favor of Union Representation with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1189.  Seven challenged ballots have yet to be resolved and because the margin of victory is within the number of challenged ballots, the results can not yet be certified by the NLRB.  Dispite the tight victory, the UFCW was prepared to file a number of charges against the employer for what it believes were agregious violations of the National Labor Relations Act leading up to the election.  "The organizing committee worked really hard even though management was working every day to make people affraid.  I am so proud of them for sticking together dispite the fear tactics," said Diana Tastad, the lead organizer on the campaign.
