Barrier-Free Drupal Sprint (Great for new contributors!) Led by Debug Academy

February 22, 2018 - 6:41pm
Start:  2018-03-11 13:30 - 18:00 America/New_York Organizers:  ashrafabed Event type:  Sprint

Hello everyone,

My team at Debug Academy and I have taught and refined local career-changing Drupal 7, Drupal 8, and React development courses at Debug Academy ( https://debugacademy.com ).

On March 11th, Debug Academy aims to shake things up by running our first "Barrier-Free Contribution Sprint" (open to the public, free RSVP required). The event will be held at a metro accessible location in Tysons Corner.

A barrier-free contribution sprint is a live event featuring the following:

  • Clutter-free, detailed, concise issue (task) summaries
  • Ability to submit your contributions as soon as they're ready without any red tape

We hope for this to become a regular event which is run periodically in the Greater Washington DC/Northern VA area. Initially, it will primarily be focused on Documentation & Contrib module/theme contributions, and the events will be tailored specifically towards new contributors.

This event welcomes the following attendees:

  • People looking for an easy way to get started with contributing
  • Mentors looking to help out other attendees contribute to Drupal
  • People interested in Drupal looking to speak with Debug Academy alumni
  • "Drupalers" looking to network with other local contributors

We aim to remove all barriers to contribution by thoroughly preparing tasks for the sprint, and preparing tools and workflows to make the contribution process smooth.

To attend the sprint training, please RSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/barrier-free-drupal-sprint-great-for-new-co...

Drupal is an extremely flexible and powerful system. Unfortunately, it is not always intuitive. Learning the basic building blocks for assembling a Drupal site and how they relate to each other is useful to start building sites having a broad overview of the system. Have you ever asked yourself any of these questions?

  • What is a node?
  • What is a content type?
  • What are fields and why are they useful?
  • What is a block and what can I do with it?
  • What is a view?
  • How does the taxonomy system work?
  • How are users and permissions managed?

This webinar will give attendees a solid overview of Drupal and all the components that go into making it one of the most successful content management systems in the world.
